Local Companies Fined For Failure To Submit Income Tax Returns

In the months of June, July and August 2022, eighteen (18) local companies were ordered to settle fines at the Magistrate’s Court for failing to comply with Section 52(1) of Income Tax Act (Chapter 35).

​The Performance of Retail Sales Decreased in the Second Quarter of 2022 Due to Lack of Domestic Demand

In the second quarter (Q2) 2022, the performance of the retail sales showed a year-on-year decrease of 4.1 per cent with an estimated value decreased from BND488.2 million to BND468.3 million. In terms of volume, the retail sales also recorded a negative growth of 6.8 per cent year-on-year.

​Consumer Price Index (CPI) increased by 0.8 percent for June 2022 Compared to May 2022

In June 2022, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) increased by 0.8 per cent compared to May 2022. This was driven by the increase in Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages Index and Non-Food Index by 0.5 per cent and 0.8 per cent respectively. 

Total Trade Increased By 62.5 Per Cent In June 2022 Compared to June 2021

In June 2022, Brunei Darussalam’s total trade was valued at BND3,244.1 million, an increase by 62.5 per cent from BND1,995.9 million during the same month last year. Meanwhile, for month-to-month changes, total trade for June 2022 increased by 14.0 per cent compared to May 2022.
