A total of three (3) business premises were found to have violated the Price Control
Act, Chapter 142 during a recent joint operation in Tutong District conducted by the
Department of Economic Planning and Statistics (DEPS) through the Department of
Consumer Affairs, in collaboration with the Weights and Measures Unit (SDT), Industry
and Business Ecosystem Division (IBE) under the Ministry of Finance and Economy.
In addition to routine daily enforcement, the monthly joint operations between DEPS
and SDT Unit are part of continuous efforts aimed at upholding an ethical business
environment by ensuring that businesses adhere to the Price Control Act, Chapter 142
and its regulations, as well as the Weights and Measures Act, Chapter 151.
DEPS has issued two (2) Warning Notices to two (2) premises respectively for failure
to display prices on items found within the business premises and one (1) compound
of BND500.00 to Syarikat Perusahaan Cap Udang for non-compliance with the Price
Control Act, Chapter 142 which is selling infant formulated powdered milk products
above the set maximum prices.
Meanwhile, the SDT Unit found that all business premises inspected were in full
compliance with the provisions of the Weights and Measures Act 1983 (Act 151).
Businesses are reminded to conduct ethical business practices by complying with the
Price Control Act, Chapter 142, towards fostering a fair and sustainable business
environment that benefits both consumers and the business community at large.
Additionally, businesses must ensure that all weighing and measuring machines used
in trading activities bear a valid registration label issued by SDT Unit, indicating the
authorized period of use, in accordance with the Weights and Measures Act 1983,
Chapter 151.
