How are PBDs developed?
PBDs are developed through consensus by committees of affected stakeholders that may include representatives from industry, governments, academia and the public interest. These committees are organized and managed by an organization that specializes in the development of PBDs.

PBDs are created in ensuring products and services are safe, reliable, and of good quality.
Why are standards required?
Standards are needed to assure safety of products, to ensure that products and materials are tailor-made for their purpose, promote the interoperability of products and services, facilitate trade by removing trade barriers, promote common understanding of a product.
How many Piawai Brunei Darussalam (PBD) have been pubished?
There are more than 157 PBDs available ranging from construction, electrical, halal, food and even tourism.
Is Piawai Brunei Darussalam (PBD) freely available and where can I access Piawai Brunei Darussalam (PBD)?
PBDs are not freely available, but listing of available standards can be found under the Standard Reference Library (https://www.mofe.gov.bn/SitePages/LISTING%20STANDARDS1.aspx) and can be purchased through the National Standards Centre.
Is ISO standards available in National Standards Centre (NSC)?
ISO standards can be requested and only be utilized and used in the Standard Reference Library.
Does National Standards Centre (NSC) sell ISO standards?
NSC does not sell ISO standards, ISO standards can be purchased directly at their website. The hyperlink can be found at https://www.mofe.gov.bn/SitePages/News%20Feed.aspx. Only ISO adopted standards are available to be purchase in NSC.
What is a public comment?
PBD are established based on an open system which is also in accordance with the World Trade Organization (WTO) requirements. These documents are issued as part of a consultation process before any standards are introduced or reviewed. This important stage in the development of PBD is the Public Comment period through the public comment portal: (https://www.mofe.gov.bn/SitePages/Public%20Comment.aspx) once any draft standards are introduced and open for review. This mechanism helps industry, companies and other stakeholders be aware of forthcoming changes to PBD and provide them with an opportunity to influence, before their publication, the standards that have been developed by National Standards Committees.
How does public comment benefit me?
The benefits are:
- It ensures that your views are considered and gives you the opportunity to influence the content of the standards in your area of expertise and in your industry;
- It enables you to be familiar with the content of the standards before they are published and you stand to gain a competitive advantage with this prior knowledge of the standards.
What happens after I have submitted my comments?
The comments will be channeled to the relevent standards committee for consideration and you will be informed of the outcome of the committee's decision and you may be invited to meet the committee if clarification is required on you feedback.

Accreditation is the external recognition of your adherence to a set of standards to perform an activity of hold a certain status. It can show that an organization adheres to a certain quality standards.
What is the benefit of accreditation?
There are numerous benefits to accreditation, depending on the scheme. In general, it shows that the organisation takes their responsibilities seriously. This gives confidence to external regulators and customers. It can lead to more business or more engagement, and can give customers or service users confidence in your standards and your ability to comply with regulations and laws.

Who gives accreditation?
NSC is currently in the process of developing its accreditation systems, and are opening up for CAB registration (refer to: https://www.mofe.gov.bn/SitePages/Accreditation.aspx) for those who wishes to provide conformity assessment services in Brunei Darussalam.
Why does Conformity Assessment Bodies (CAB) need to be accredited?
In order to show objective evidence of its competencies and impartiality in producing the test result and to control foreign CABs in producing dubious certification.
