The Competition Commission of Brunei Darussalam (CCBD), through its Executive Secretariat,
conducted an advocacy session titled “Competing Fairly in Brunei: An Overview of the Competition
Act, Chapter 253” in collaboration with the Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) School of Business
and Economics (SBE) on 11 November 2025.
The session was attended by students and lecturers from UBD SBE as part of the school’s seminar
series aimed at deepening understanding of economic policy and regulatory frameworks in Brunei
Darussalam.
During the session, officers from the Executive Secretariat of CCBD provided an overview of the
Competition Act, Chapter 253, including the prohibitions against anti-competitive agreements, abuse
of dominant position, and mergers that substantially lessen competition. The presentation highlighted
how the Act supports fair and efficient markets that benefit consumers and businesses alike.
Participants were introduced to real case studies from the region to illustrate the importance of
competition law enforcement and how anti-competitive practices can harm markets. The session also
featured an interactive quiz and Q&A segment, encouraging active engagement and discussion
among participants.
Through such advocacy initiatives, CCBD continues its efforts to promote awareness and
understanding of the Competition Act among students, educators, and future professionals.
Strengthening awareness of fair competition principles helps foster a culture of compliance and
integrity in support of Wawasan Brunei 2035’s goal of building a dynamic and sustainable economy.
This initiative forms part of CCBD’s continuous efforts to advocate the benefits of competition and
foster a culture of compliance in Brunei Darussalam, in support of Wawasan Brunei’s 2035 goal of
building a dynamic and sustainable economy.
