Bandar Seri Begawan, 11 August 2025 – Brunei Darussalam took a significant step forward in its clean energy
transition today with the groundbreaking ceremony for the flagship project of 30-megawatt (MW) solar photovoltaic
power plant in Kampong Belimbing which is set to become the country’s largest solar facility to date.
The event was officiated by Yang Mulia Dato Seri Paduka Awang Haji Khairuddin bin Haji Abdul Hamid, Deputy
Minister of Finance and Economy (Economy), and attended by Deputy Permanent Secretary, Legislative Council
member, High Commissioners, senior government officials, key project partners, directors and industry
stakeholders.
Developed by Seri Suria Power (B) Sdn Bhd, a joint venture between Serikandi Oilfield Services Sdn Bhd,
Khazanah Satu Sdn Bhd (a government linked company under Ministry of Finance and Economy), and Atlantic
Blue Sdn Bhd (a subsidiary of Malaysia’s Solarvest Holdings Berhad). The project represents a significant
milestone in the nation’s ambition of a low-carbon, sustainable energy future.
Strategically located on a remediated landfill site on a total area of 32.29 hectares, the solar plant represents a
transformative reuse of a formerly undeveloped land into a productive clean energy asset. Once operational by the
end of 2026, it will generate over 64,000 megawatt-hours of clean electricity annually, enough to power more than
15,500 homes each year. Beyond power generation, the project will offset an estimated 41,000 tonnes of carbon
dioxide annually equivalent to planting 1.87 million trees and reduce reliance on fossil fuels by displacing over
219,000 MMBtu of natural gas consumption.
“This is more than a construction project. It is a symbol of Brunei Darussalam’s commitment to sustainable
development and energy diversification,” said Director of Seri Suria Power Sdn Bhd, Dato Paduka Awang Haji
Jamain bin Haji Julaihi. “We are laying the foundation for a Brunei Darussalam to be cleaner, more resilient, and
committed to sustainable energy for generations to come.”
The development is aligned with Brunei Darussalam’s renewable energy target of at least 30% share of renewables
of the total power installed capacity by 2035, and its broader climate goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions
by 20% by 2030, as outlined under His Majesty’s Government.
The Engineering, Procurement, Construction, and Commissioning (EPCC) works will be undertaken by Serikandi
Solarvest Sdn Bhd, with a focus on ensuring adherence to the highest standards of safety, quality, and
environmental responsibility.
Originating from a competitive Request for Proposal in 2021, the project exemplifies effective collaboration
between the public and private sectors combining local expertise with regional capabilities and international best
practices.
In addition to its environmental impact, the project is expected to create local employment opportunities, boost
technical capacity, and nurture Bruneian talent in the green energy sector. This is also a testament of Seri Suria
Power (B) Sdn Bhd’s commitment to contribute to the nation’s clean energy journey, and to play its part in shaping
a sustainable future for Brunei Darussalam.
Seri Suria Power Sdn Bhd is also proud to contribute to building skills and capability in alternative low-carbon
energy, as part of its commitment to Brunei Darussalam’s clean energy transition and under the guidance of the
Department of Energy’s leadership and vision. As the plant advances, and once key components are installed, this
solar facility will be utilized as a real-world learning hub. This will provide hands-on exposure to solar technology
and equip Bruneians with the skills needed to contribute to the nation’s low-carbon future.
