Brunei Darussalam had the honour of hosting a six-member delegation from the
Administration for Market Regulation of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region of China
(GXAMR), led by Mr. Ji Erming, on an official visit from 4th to 5th August 2025. The
delegation was received by officials from the Ministry of Finance and Economy (MOFE)
at the Ministry of Finance and Economy building, Brunei Darussalam.
In his welcoming remarks, Mr. Allen On, Director of the Industry and Business
Ecosystem (IBE) Division and in his capacity as Co-Secretary General of the Brunei–
Guangxi Economic Corridor (BGEC), warmly welcomed the delegation and reaffirmed
Brunei’s strong partnership with Guangxi. He highlighted the importance of technical
cooperation in standardization, metrology, conformity assessment, and regulatory
development as key enablers of trade, innovation, and quality infrastructure. These
efforts, he noted, directly contribute to the strategic objectives of the Brunei–Guangxi
Economic Corridor.
During the discussions, both sides expressed strong commitment to expanding
collaboration in the following areas:
- Exchange of technical standards and regulatory information
- Joint workshops and technical exchanges
- Capacity building and training programmes, especially for new technical staff
- Laboratory-level cooperation in calibration, testing, and certification
- Support for pilot cooperation in halal products, food safety, and digital trade.
A key focus of the discussion was Brunei’s plan to further strengthen its metrology in
the view of establishing National Metrology Institute (NMI) to complete the National
Quality Infrastructure (NQI). GXAMR’s expertise and institutional experience were
welcomed as an important support mechanism in helping Brunei develop technical
capacity, training modules, and systems readiness for the new institute.
During the official visit to Brunei Darussalam, the delegation held a meeting with the
Brunei Darussalam Standards and Accreditation Centre (BDSAC) and visited the
Measurement Standards Unit (MSU), both under MOFE, to gain deeper understanding
of Brunei’s standardization, accreditation, and metrology practices. These visits serve
to explore how things are operationalised on the ground and to identify areas for
institutional-level collaboration going forward.
The visit further underscores a shared commitment to advancing the Brunei–Guangxi
Economic Corridor through practical, technical cooperation that strengthens national
quality systems and facilitates broader economic integration between both sides.
