Brunei Darussalam through Weights and Measures Unit (SDT) under Industry and Business Ecosystem Division (IBE), Ministry of Finance and Economy (MOFE) has hosted a training program on the Software Evaluation During Type Approval under the “Strengthening Quality Infrastructure In ASEAN” 2023-2026 project on Wednesday, 11 June 2025.

In his opening remarks, Yang Mulia Awang Allen On Hsien Yung, Director of IBE Division, MOFE emphasized that measurement software embedded within instruments play a pivotal role in ensuring trust, transparency and traceability. He also highlighted the inevitability of digitalisation of measurement systems should encourage regulators to be responsible in ensuring legal compliance is maintained whilst enabling innovation. 

Hosting of this event indicates Brunei Darussalam’s commitment to strengthening regulatory frameworks, empowering local authorities and actively contributing to ASEAN’s broader integration and quality infrastructure efforts. This initiative is aligned with Brunei Darussalam’s aspirations under Wawasan Brunei 2035 as well as ASEAN’s shared goal to create a harmonised and competitive region. Software evaluation capabilities are no longer niche; they are foundational to modern legal metrology. 

The online training was conducted in collaboration with PTB, the Federal Republic of Germany, National Metrology Institute of Malaysia (NMIM) and the ASEAN Working Group on Legal Metrology (WG3). The first session was attended by sixty-one (61) participants across ASEAN member states and the Federal Republic of Germany.
