Retailers urged to participate in national end-of-year sales

Brunei Salebration is back at the end of the year. The much-anticipated event will run for the whole of December 2019 and January 2020 over a total of 62 days. The Department of Economic Planning and Development (JPKE), Ministry of Finance and Economy, encourages participation by retailers from all sectors to take the opportunity to be a part of the national effort to promote ‘spend in Brunei’ to boost domestic

The Brunei Salebration 2019 is also one of the key events lined up in support of Bandar Seri Begawan’s recognition as the Asian Region’s Capital of Islamic Culture for 2019 and it coincides with the Brunei December Festival 2019.

Last year’s iteration of the popular sales event attracted participation from 567 retailers across sectors, including department stores, furniture stores, boutiques and footwear shops, health and beauty salons, sports and bookstores, jewellers and many others.

JPKE encourages all businesses to play their part in promoting Brunei Darussalam as an enticing shopping destination by offering a wide range of goods and services at competitive prices. To encourage more participation this year, JPKE has provided greater flexibility for businesses by removing conditions on minimum requirement for discounts on their goods and services. Participating stores will also be featured in the ‘SmartConsumer’ mobile app (for iOS and Android) to gain more publicity and increase their visibility to shoppers.

By offering creative deals and substantial discounts, Brunei Salebration 2019 is an excellent opportunity for businesses to draw more shopper traffic and build customer loyalty.

JPKE reminds participants to conduct business and sales activities in an ethical manner in compliance with the Consumer Protection (Fair Trading) Order, 2011 and the Display of Price Regulations. Compliance to the Order and regulations will benefit businesses to maintain if not enhance consumer confidence and business credibility. JPKE also reminds retailers that goods and discounts are to be appropriately displayed to ensure price transparency, to enable consumers to make informed purchase decisions. In addition, in line with the Cheap Sales Price Regulations, Sales Notices issued by JPKE must be displayed clearly in participating business premises.

Retailers who are interested to be part of the Brunei Salebration 2019 may submit Sales Notifications beginning today to 19 November 2019.
