The Industry and Business Ecosystem Division (IBE) through the Weights and Measures Unit (SDT) and the Department of Economic Planning and Statistics (DEPS) through the Department of Consumer Affairs under the Ministry of Finance and Economy conducted a monthly joint operation which was carried out at several business premises in Tutong District on Saturday, 14 December 2024.

During the operation, SDT officers found thirteen (13) units of weighing machines used for trading purposes. All weighing machine are verified, accurate and registered in accordance to the Weights and Measures Act 1983 (Chapter 151) dan Weights and Measures (Verification) Regulations 1994 under section 3 (1) and (2). 

Two (2) business premises were found to infringe the Price Control Act (Chapter 142) and its regulations, particularly Section 3B and Section 5, which pertain to selling above the maximum price for price-controlled items and the non-display of prices for some items found at the business premises. As a result of these offences, DEPS has issued two (2) Warning Notices to the business premises. During the joint operation, retailers are also reminded to ensure compliance with the Price Control Act (Chapter 142). 

Consumers are advised to ensure that weighing and measuring machines used during trading activities involving weight, volume and length of the devices bear a valid registration sticker issued by SDT. Additionally, retailers are reminded to display prices clearly and accurately, and to utilize the PenggunaBijak mobile application to obtain the latest maximum price of controlled items and ensure that the items are not sold above the set maximum prices.
