Third Senior Officials Meeting of the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership

The third Senior Officials Meeting (SOM) of the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) for 2024 took place at the Indera Samudera Grand Hall, The Empire Brunei on 22-23 July 2024.

The meeting was attended by Senior Officials from Australia, Brunei, Canada, Chile, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore, Viet Nam and United Kingdom, while Mexico attended the meeting via video conferencing. 

The meeting was chaired by Mr Bruce Christie, Assistant Deputy Minister, Trade Policy and Negotiations Global Affairs Canada, as CPTPP Chair for 2024. The meeting discussed the implementation of the agreement as well as the CPTPP General Review progress. 

Yang Mulia Puan Dr. Hajah May Fa'ezah binti Haji Ahmad Ariffin, Permanent Secretary (Economy, Trade and Industry) as Brunei Darussalam’s Senior Official, welcomed the good progress of the agreement’s implementation and conveyed Brunei Darussalam’s full support towards Canada’s Chairmanship priorities including efforts towards enhancing utilisation of the CPTPP Agreement to benefit trade and investment opportunities. 

The CPTPP is a free trade agreement signed by 12 countries: Australia, Brunei Darussalam, Canada, Chile, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore, Viet Nam and the United Kingdom.
