The 33rd Meeting of the ASEAN Directors - General of Customs, 4 - 6 June Phu Quoc, Vietnam

Yang Mulia Muhammad Azizil Hakim bin Haji Brahim, Acting Controller along with Senior Officers from the Royal Customs and Excise Department, Ministry of Finance and Economy attended the 33rd Meeting of the ASEAN Directors – General of Customs. The Meeting was chaired by Mr. Nguyen Van Can, Director-General of Vietnam Customs Department in Phu Quoc, Viet Nam and was attended by the 10 ASEAN Member States (AMS), ASEAN Dialogue Partners, and representative from the ASEAN Secretariat.

The meeting is held annually and focuses on reviewing the achievements and progress on the implementation of the Strategic Plans of Customs Development (SPCDs) 2021 – 2025 and the ASEAN Single Window. 

On 5th June 2024, Yang Mulia Muhammad Azizil Hakim bin Haji Brahim co-chaired the 22nd ASEAN-China Customs Consultation together with Mr. Zhao Zenglian, Vice Minister and CPC Committee Member of the General Administration of Customs, the People’s Republic of China (GACC). The Meeting noted updates on ASEAN-China trade and customs-related matters, and discussed progress on ASEAN-China Customs Cooperation and proposals for future cooperation. 

Consultation sessions were also held with Australia, Japan, the Republic of Korea and the World Customs Organisation (WCO) to exchange best practices and experiences on customs-related issues. The meeting also held consultation sessions with private sector representatives from the EU-ASEAN Business Council and the US-ASEAN Business Council. 

The meeting encouraged relevant country coordinators to develop the new cycle of the Strategic Plan on Customs Development (SPCD) for the period of 2026-2030 and for the outcomes to be presented during the next meeting whereby Brunei Darussalam is scheduled to host and chair the forthcoming 34th Meeting of the ASEAN Directors-General of Customs in 2025.
