Launching Ceremony of Brunei Green Economy Report

The Ministry of Finance and Economy in collaboration with the British High Commission, this morning, organised the launching of the Brunei Green Economy Report that was held at the Theatre Hall, Ministry of Finance and Economy. Attending as the Guest of Honour at the ceremony was Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Dr. Haji Mohd Amin Liew bin Abdullah, Minister at the Prime Minister's Office and Minister of Finance and Economy II, and the British High Commissioner, His Excellency Mr. John Virgoe.

The launch of the Brunei Green Economy Report is one of the deliverables under the UK-Brunei Strategic Dialogue: Brunei Green Economy Framework which aims to formulate a sustainability roadmap to guide strategies in diversifying Brunei's economy. It is also one of the country's initiatives in achieving the net zero emission commitment by 2050. 

In his special remarks, Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Dr. Haji Mohd Amin Liew bin Abdullah emphasised the significance of resilience in building a greener economy and how the report promotes collaboration to identify opportunities for targeted investments, policy improvements, business matching and international partnerships, as we aim to build a resilient and sustainable economy that balances environmental stewardship with economic prosperity. 

The event also witnessed remarks from His Excellency Mr. John Virgoe who also highlighted the importance of international cooperation in addressing global challenges such as climate change and economic sustainability. Following the remarks, the Brunei Green Economy Report was formally launched with a handover ceremony.

The comprehensive report was then presented by Mr. Brice Richard from ARUP Singapore, as consultant for the report, to provide an overview of the impacts of climate change on the country's economy, identifying areas of opportunity as well as challenges that can be used as a basis for developing the green economy in Brunei Darussalam whilst contributing to the economy in terms of production, new job creation and reduction of carbon production. 

The event continued with a panel discussion consisting of experts from Brunei Darussalam represented by Yang Mulia Dayang Hajah Farida binti Dato Seri Paduka Haji Talib, Permanent Secretary (Energy) at the Prime Minister’s Office, and from the United Kingdom on the topic of ‘A Pathway to Economic Resilience’. The panel facilitated an exchange of ideas, insights, and best practices in conducting a green transition whilst ensuring economic prosperity. 

Also present during the launching ceremony was Yang Mulia Pengiran Datin Seri Paduka Hajah Zety Sufina binti Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Sani, the Deputy Minister of Finance and Economy (Fiscal), Ambassadors, senior Government officials, industry experts from the United Kingdom, ARUP Singapore, members of the BGEF working group, representatives from the relevant agencies involved in producing the report, as well as other stakeholders in efforts to make the Brunei Green Economy Framework a success.
