National Standards Centre (NSC) under the Ministry of Finance and Economy, in collaboration with Authority on Building Control and Construction Industry (ABCi), Ministry of Development (MOD), conducted a socialisation programme on “PBD 2:2022 (2nd Edition) - Specification for Welded Steel Fabric for the Reinforcement of Concrete” on the 20th May 2023 at Indera Pahlawan Hall, ABCi, MOD. 

The event was held to introduce the 2nd Edition of Piawai Brunei Darussalam (PBD) and raise awareness of the revised PBD to relevant stakeholders under the government agencies, private sectors, higher learning institutions, suppliers and contractors as well as professional consultants. PBD 2:2022 (2nd Edition) was adopted from ISO 6935-3:1992 which is the standard for ‘Steel for the Reinforcement of Concrete’ and sets the requirements for welded steel fabric to be used as reinforcement in concrete structures, covering material, welding requirements, fabric properties and testing requirements in ensuring the quality and performance of the steel fabric recognised for use within the construction industry. 

In attendance were Yang Mulia Dayang Aldila binti Haji Mohamad Salleh, Acting Deputy Permanent Secretary (Construction Industry and Development) as the Representative Chairperson of the Standards Committee for Construction as the guest of honor, Yang Mulia Dayang Hajah Haslinawati binti Haji Abdul Halim, Head of ABCi and Yang Mulia Dayang Hajah Sharni Azne binti Haji Mohd Said, Acting Special Duties Officer Grade I of NSC. 

In her opening remarks, Yang Mulia Dayang Aldila binti Haji Mohamad Salleh, emphasised on the importance of PBD 2:2022, which aims to create and provide a vibrant, efficient and sustainable local industrial environment, that meets the demand for services that supports the construction industry in Brunei Darussalam, sustainable, economic and also social development of the construction industry. She also expressed her highest appreciation to the team in the Working Group on Iron and Steel under the Technical Committee on Construction Materials (TCCM) for their concerted effort and diligence in developing this standard.

The event proceeded with a joint presentation by Yang Mulia Pg Abdul Shahid bin Pg Hj Amir Bahar, Special Duties Officer Grade II on the role of NSC in the development of National Standards and Yang Mulia Mohammad Izz Rafiuddin bin Amer Hishamuddin, Engineer of Department of Technical Services, Public Works Department (JKR) on the technicality and the amendment to the updated PBD. 

Also, in attendance were 61 participants from stakeholders of various government departments, private sectors, higher learning institutions, suppliers and contractors as well as professional consultants. As part of the event, the PBD 2:2022 document was also made available for showcase and sale; and it is anticipated that the said document will help to realize the initiatives of both NSC and ABCi.
