Case of Arrest of Customs Prohibited Items



The Royal Customs and Excise Department (RCED) through its Law Enforcement Division and an enforcement agency has conducted a joint operation in two locations at Serasa, Muara area.

The operation carried out on Saturday, 25th March 2023 by RCED resulted in the apprehension of 13 local male and 10 foreigners aged between 25 and 48 of which all of whom were found to be involved with attempts to smuggle subsidized petrol into neighbouring countries. Items that have been confiscated are:

    1. Over 41,000 litres of Diesel oil;
    2. A tugboat from a neighbouring country; and
    3. A lorry used to carry plastic tanks containing the smuggled fuel.

All suspects and the confiscated items were brought to the law enforcement office for further investigation.

Those found guilty will be handed a fine fined between BND10,000 and BND50,000 as well as imprisonment of no more than three years or both. Meanwhile, those committing second and subsequent offences will be fined between BND10,000 and BND500,000 as well as imprisonment of at least six months and not more than five years or both. 

RCED would like to remind the public to always abide the country's regulations and refrain from engaging in smuggling activities or bringing in and out prohibited items. Possessing contraband items by Customs is an offense under Section 146, Excise Order 2006.

RCED would also like to thank the public who have helped provide cooperation by channelling information related to activities that violate the laws and regulations enforced by RCED.
