The Cases of Arrest of Customs Operation on Prohibited Goods And Disposal Activities of Customs Confiscated Items

The Royal Excise and Customs Department (RCED) through its Law Enforcement Division has conducted an operation at Jalan Mumong area.

Two local permanent resident males aged between 46 and 50 was apprehended for possessing 76 cartons, 123 packets and 27 sticks of cigarettes as well as 58 alcoholic bottles and 36 alcoholic tins of different types.

All items had been confiscated and all involved individuals had been brought to the Law Enforcement Office for further investigation.

Meanwhile, also joining the RCED to carry out the disposal activities included relevant agencies such as the Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) and the Department of Environment, Parks and Recreation (JASTRe). The process of disposal is through the use of heavy machinery by crushing the looted items until destroyed.

Such activities that have been carried out on August 2022 have seen the disposal of 99 cartons and 1 packet of cigarettes of different types, 64 cartons of alcoholic beverages, 312 alcoholic bottles and 20 alcoholic tins of different types.

Any confiscated or detained items exceeding a period of 30 days an any confiscated items under court order is under the authority of the Royal Excise and Customs Controller to be disposed in accordance to Chapter 131 and Chapter 132, Customs Order 2006.

RCED would like to remind members of the public to constantly comply with the regulations in the country and avoid from committing smuggling activities or bringing in and out prohibited goods by customs to the country. Possessing customs prohibited goods is an offence under Section 146, Excise Order 2006.

RCED also expressed gratitude to members of the public for providing cooperation by spreading information related to activities which breaches rules and regulations enforced by the department. Members of the public are welcome to share any information related to smuggling activities of customs prohibited goods by contacting the hotline 8714422/8721422 or its nearest office. RCED assures that the identity of the complainant will be kept confidential.
