Ministry of Finance and Economy BIMP-EAGA Senior Official Meeting (SOM) / Strategic Planning Meeting (SPM) Virtual Meeting

​BIMP-EAGA Senior Official Meeting (SOM)/ Strategic Planning Meeting  (SPM) was held on Thursday, 22hb April  2021,  via video conferencing. The meeting was chaired by Yang Berbahagia  Dato’ Ahmad Zamri bin Khairuddin, Director of Regional Development, Economic Planning Unit, Prime Minister’s Office, Malaysia.

Attending the Meeting virtually were BIMP-EAGA Senior Officials, Chairs of BIMP-EAGA Clusters, BIMP-EAGA Facilitation Centre (BIMP-FC), Asian Development Bank (ADB) and Chair of BIMP-EAGA Business Council. Brunei Darussalam was represented by Yang Mulia Dr. Hajah May Fa’ezah binti Haji Ahmad Ariffin, Permanent Secretary (Economy) and officers from the Trade Division at the Ministry of Finance and Economy.  

The Meeting took note on the presentations by Chairs of the eight BIMPEAGA Clusters namely Transport, Trade and Investment, Power and Energy Infrastructure, Agribusiness, Tourism, Environment, and Socio-Cultural & Education. Brunei Darussalam leads in three of the Clusters (Tourism, Power and Energy Infrastructure and Socio-Cultural & Education).  

The Meeting reported among others on implementation plan for 2021, list of Rolling Pipelines of Projects (RpoPs) for 2020-2022, Convergence Projects and Priority Infrastructure Projects (PIPs). The preparation for the Mid-Term Review (MTR) towards the BIMP-EAGA Vision (BEV) 2025 was also reported whereby the Clusters and Working Groups have identified targets assessment  and SWOT analysis. The MTR report will be circulated during the 24th BIMPEAGA Ministers Meeting and Related Meetings which will be held this year.   

The Meeting also provide guidance and recommendation, among others to leverage on  digital technology in the implementation of projects and initiatives in the new norm, considering green technology and renewable energy, miximising investment opportunities in the agribusiness sector particularly in strengthening value chain and promoting tourism sector, supporting Green City initiatives and development of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs).  

The Meeting also discussed the way forward with regard to BIMP-EAGA cooperation with Development Partners particularly the Northern Territory, Australia, The People’s Republic of China, Republic of Korea and Japan.    

The Meeting agreed to hold the 24th BIMP-EAGA Ministers Meeting and Related Meetings to be chaired by the Philippines and the 14th BIMP-EAGA Summit to be chaired by Indonesia.
