JPES continues its dialogue session with the Penghulu Mukim and Village Heads in the Temburong District for the preparation of the upcoming Population and Housing Census (BPP) 2021

​The Department of Economic Planning and Statistics (JPES), Ministry of Finance and Economy, in collaboration with the Temburong District Office, Ministry of Home Affairs, held a dialogue session with the Penghulu-Penghulu Mukim and Village Heads in the Temburong District on the 19th of December 2020 as preparation for the upcoming Population and Housing Census (BPP) 2021. The dialogue session aims to increase awareness on BPP 2021 and also acts as a platform to strengthen the good relationship between JPES and Penghulu-Penghulu Mukim as well as Village Heads in ensuring the smooth implementation of the upcoming Census.

Present during the dialogue session was a member of the Legislative Council, Yang Berhormat Awang Haji Emran bin Haji Sabtu, Penghulu of Mukim Bokok and all five Mukims in the Temburong District. Also in attendance was Yang Mulia Hajah Mariah binti Haji Yahya, Director General of JPES as well as the Acting Temburong District Officer, Awang Mohd Amirul Hadi bin Haji Md Tajudin. The presentation on BPP 2021 was given by Yang Mulia Awang Mohd Edwin Khalid bin Haji Mohd Salleh, BPP 2021 Assistant Superintendent for Temburong District and was followed by a question-and-answer session and an information sharing session on the BPP 2021 field activities.

The Population and Housing Census 2021, which is the sixth census of its kind conducted in Brunei Darussalam, will be implemented in three (3) stages. The first stage is the houselisting stage by kampung/area in each district throughout the country running from 20 January 2021 until 21 February 2021. The second stage is the e-Census implementation from 20 April 2021 until 21 June 2021. Meanwhile, the third stage is face-to-face interview starting from 20 July 2021 until 2 August 2021.

The census will cover all persons, whether Brunei Darussalam citizens, permanent residents or temporary residents residing in Brunei Darussalam in 2021. Data collected through BPP 2021 will provide comprehensive information on the population by various demographic, social and economic characteristics as well as information on the total stock of living quarters together with basic housing facilities or amenities.
