Brunei Salebration 2020 kicks off earlier to boost economic activities

The Brunei Salebration (BSb) 2020 which will kick off on Sunday will continue until February 12, 2021.

The Department of Economic Planning and Statistics (JPES) of the Ministry of Finance and Economy encouraged retailers to take part in the annual end-of-year sales event by offering discounts in support of the national effort to stimulate shop-in-Brunei to bolster economic growth.

BSb 2020 commences two weeks earlier than usual as the government calls on retailers to play their part in boosting domestic economic activities following the COVID-19 pandemic.

JPES welcomes involvement by registered online businesses with the aim of providing consumers with a wider range of products at competitive prices and shopping options.

Participating retailers are reminded to adhere to the Ministry of Health (MoH) guidelines, especially by implementing precautionary measures against COVID-19 such as body temperature screening, providing hand sanitisers, ensuring customers scan the BruHealth QR code, adhering to mass gathering guidelines by limiting the number of customers in the premises to 350 at any one time and placing signs reminding the public to practise social distancing, as well as ensuring the cleanliness of shopping trollies and baskets. Online businesses should also take health precautions when delivering to customers.

The list of participating stores will be featured in the JPES’ PenggunaBijak mobile app. The PenggunaBijak app can be downloaded for free for both iOS and Android devices.

JPES reminded BSb 2020 participants to conduct business and sale activities in compliance with the Consumer Protection (Fair Trading) Order, 2011 to maintain consumer confidence and build business credibility.

Goods offered on sale in physical and online stores must be clearly price-tagged in line with the Display of Prices Regulations, which ensures price transparency to enable consumers to make informed purchase decisions.

In line with the Cheap Sales Price Regulations, Sales Notices issued by JPES must be clearly displayed at each participating business premises or made available to the public on online platforms as an identification of legitimate participation to BSb 2020.

To participate in BSb 2020, businesses must submit a Notification Form to JPES. The Notification Form can be downloaded from www.deps.gov.bn/cad and must be submitted no later than November 21 to the JPES building or by emailing to sales@jpke.gov.bn.

Businesses wishing to participate in the sales event for a shorter duration of 64 days from November 15 to January 17, 2021 may contact JPES.
