Minister launches Halal plant-based meat products

Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) and Minister of Finance and Economy II Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew bin Abdullah yesterday launched Plantasti, the world’s first Halal plant-based meat ‘Ready to Eat Meals’.

This is the latest product under Saahtain Asia Sdn Bhd, a joint venture company between the United Arab Emirates based Saahtain Group and the Strategic Development Capital Fund of the Ministry of Finance and Economy (MoFE).

The launching took place during Saahtain’s third year anniversary celebration at The Empire Brunei in Jerudong.

Deputy Minister of Finance and Economy (Economy) Dato Seri Paduka Dr Haji Abdul Manaf bin Haji Metussin, members of the diplomatic corps, senior government officials and guests attended the launch.

The Plantasti product range will be available at selected outlets in Brunei Darussalam. The first export market will be Sweden with a local food distributor.

Saahtain Asia Sdn Bhd CEO Adeel Khan in a statement said, “Although plant-based products have been around for some time, it is only now that companies are putting deep focus on texture and taste. Without that, people would rather prefer vegan products.”

Brunei Darussalam ranked Number 8 in the Global Islamic Economy Report 2019/2020 for Halal food export and development, which signifies the importance of the industry’s contribution to Brunei Darussalam’s gross domestic product (GDP) growth.
