Penghulus, village heads attend SKN roadshow

A roadshow to provide greater insight into the National Welfare System (SKN) was held at the Tutong District Civic Centre Complex for mukim penghulus and village heads yesterday.

Legislative Council (LegCo) member and Penghulu of Mukim Tanjong Maya Yang Berhormat Haji Abdul Wahab bin Apong and Deputy Permanent Secretary (Community) at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS)Saidah binti Haji Wahid attended.

The roadshow was split into two sessions in compliance with the Ministry of Health’s (MoH) advice in avoiding mass gatherings. Attendees were able to raise questions about the SKN.

The SKN to be officiated on July 15, will be open to individuals seeking to apply for Monthly Welfare Assistance (BKB), operated by the MCYS and Brunei Islamic Religious Council (MUIB) for underprivileged (Asnaf Fakir and Miskin).

The system can be accessed through the www.skn.gov.bn website. At this stage, the application is only open to citizens and residents of Brunei Darussalam applying for the BKB scheme under Community Development Department (JAPEM) and MUIB.

Meanwhile, other assistance may be presented as usual (manual) to JAPEM and MUIB. The application will be available online once the SKN is upgraded in stages.

The SKN will use the national criteria as a baseline to determine who is eligible to receive assistance. This includes aligning the Minimum Cost of Basic Needs (KMKA) procedures to assess each applicant’s poverty level.
