Dr Hajah May Fa’ezah binti Haji Ahmad Ariffin was born in 1974.

She graduated with a Bachelor of Art (Honours) degree in Economics and English Language in 1998 from University of Brunei Darussalam. She was awarded Master of Science degree in Economics from University of Warwick, United Kingdom in 2000 and PhD in Economics, University of Kent at Canterbury, United Kingdom in 2009.

Prior to her recent appointment as Deputy Permanent Secretary (Performance and Compliance), at the Ministry of Finance in April 2017, Dr Hajah May Fa’ezah was the Deputy Permanent Secretary (Economy and Finance) at the Prime Minister’s Office since 2015.

Dr Hajah May Fa’ezah began her service with the Government of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam in 1998 as a Lecturer in Economics at University of Brunei Darussalam. In 2002, Dr Hajah May Fa’ezah joined the Department of Economic Planning and Development at the Prime Minister’s Office as Senior Economic Officer. In 2010, Dr Hajah May Fa’ezah was appointed as Director of Policy and Coordination, and later on in 2011, she was promoted to Director General, Department of Economic Planning and Development at the Prime Minister’s Office. In November 2014 to November 2015, she was assigned as Senior Advisor to the Executive Director International Monetary Fund, Washington D.C.
