Brunei Darussalam and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia reaffirmed their commitment to enhance bilateral economic cooperation at the 2nd Brunei Darussalam – Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Joint Committee Meeting, convened in Bandar Seri Begawan on 26th November 2025.
The Meeting was co-chaired by Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Dr. Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew bin Abdullah, Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Finance and Economy II of Brunei Darussalam, and His Excellency Dr. Nasser Aldossary, Deputy Minister for International Relations and Cooperation, Ministry of Energy, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
In his opening remarks, Yang Berhormat Dato Dr. Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Finance and Economy II recognised the longstanding and warm relations between Brunei Darussalam and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia since the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1987. Given similar long term visions and ambitions under Wawasan Brunei 2035 and Saudi Vision 2030, Yang Berhormat Dato Dr. Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Finance and Economy II underscored the importance of the Joint Committee as a mechanism to deepen and broaden bilateral cooperation in areas of mutual interests, supporting both countries’ continued economic advancements and the
well-being of their peoples.
During the Meeting, Brunei Darussalam and Saudi Arabia reflected upon the positive developments in bilateral economic relations, and thereafter agreed to twenty-five (25) initiatives that will strengthen engagements across various sectors including trade and investment, transport, Haj and Umrah, sports, heritage, education, human resource development and media.
Also in attendance at the Joint Committee Meeting were permanent secretaries and senior officials from relevant ministries, departments and agencies of Brunei Darussalam as well as senior officials from various Ministries of Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The Joint Committee Meeting was preceded by a Technical Session, which was
co-officiated by Yang Mulia Dr. Hajah May Fa’ezah binti Haji Ahmad Ariffin, Permanent Secretary (Economy, Trade and Industry), Ministry of Finance and Economy (MOFE), Brunei Darussalam, and Dr. Akram Jadawi, General Manager of International Relations, Ministry of Energy, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The Technical Session provided an avenue for senior officials from Brunei Darussalam and Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to exchange views and identify potential areas for enhanced cooperation under their respective sectors.
