Industry and Business Ecosystem Division (IBE) through Weights and Measures Unit (SDT) and Department of Economic Planning and Statistics (JPES) through Department of Consumer Affairs under the Ministry of Finance and Economy conducted a joint operation on business premises at The Mall Gadong, Brunei-Muara District on Tuesday, 23 December 2025. The joint operation this December is focused on participants of the Brunei Salebration (BSb) 2025.
During the operation, SDT Unit found twenty-three (23) units of weighing machines used for trading purposes. All weighing machine are verified, accurate and registered in accordance to Weights and Measures Act 1983 Chapter 151 and Weights and Measures (Verification) Regulations 1994 Chapter 3 (1) and (2).
Following the joint-operation, JPES found that the inspected business premises participating in BSb 2025 complied with the regulatory requirements by displaying prices clearly and accurately in accordance with the Cheap Sale Price Regulations and the Price Display Order under the Price Control Act, Chapter 142. Furthermore, businesses were also advised to ensure that the terms and conditions of sales are presented transparently, to help consumers make informed purchase decisions.
Consumers are advised to ensure weighing and measuring machines used during trading activities that involves weight, volume and length of the devices to bear valid registration sticker issued by the Unit.
Businesses were also reminded to conduct their sales activities ethically and fairly, including ensuring that price lists of items on sale and detail of discounts are readily available at their respective business premises for inspection by price inspectors, in accordance with the Regulations 11(a) and (b) of the Cheap Sale Price Regulations.
