Industry and Business Ecosystem Division (IBE) through Weights and Measures Unit (SDT) under the Ministry of Finance and Economy conducted enforcement operations on seasonal festive stalls in conjunction with the celebration of 79th Birthday of His Majesty Paduka Seri Bagi​nda Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam. Two (2) operations were conducted as follows: 

• Thursday, 17 July 2025 - at the parking area in front of Royal Regalia Building and the Tamu Selera Food Stalls; and​
• ​Thursday, 28 August 2025 - Dermaga Diraja, Night Market Place Yayasan Shopping Complex and at the parking area in front of Royal Regalia Building. 

The operation was part of a routine enforcement to ensure weights and measures machines used for business activities are registered and verified accordance to Weights and Measures Act 1983 Chapter 151. 

During the operation on the 17th July 2025 and 28th August 2025, SDT officers found twenty five (25) units of weighing machines used for trading purposes. Of these, nineteen (19) units were found to be non-compliant with Weights and Measures Act 1983 Chapter 151 for using unregistered instruments. The owners of the equipment have been issued with a Reminder Notice and was required to rectify the issue and present themselves to SDT Unit’s Office within seven (7) working days from the date the notice was issued. 

As stipulated in the Weights and Measures (Verifications) Regulations, 1994 under section 3 (2); every person who uses or has in his possession for use for trade any weight, measure or instrument for weighing not stamped as required by this regulation shall be guilty of an offence. The penalty for such offence is as fine of BND1,000.00 or imprisonment for three (3) months or both and instrument for weighing shall be liable to be forfeited and any contract, bargain, sale or dealing made by such weight, measure or instrument for Weighing shall be void.
