The Government of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, through the Department of Economic Planning and Development (JPKE), Ministry of Finance and Economy will be conducting the Labour Force Survey (LFS) 2019 (Second Stage) starting from 14 October until 10 November 2019.
The main objective of LFS 2019 is to collect latest information on the size, structure, distribution and characteristics of the labour force, employment, unemployment and other economic characteristics of the population, which will be used to assist in the planning, research, policy-making and management concerning the labour force.
LFS 2019 will involve about 3,200 households only throughout the country. The interview will be conducted by the Computer Assisted Personal Interview (CAPI) approach, whereby the survey officers will be using tablets instead of printed questionnaires during the face-to-face interview of selected households. This approach was first implemented during LFS 2018 and it has helped in reducing the cost and time taken for the survey operations, as well as in facilitating data processing and improving data quality in general.
The Labour Force Survey is conducted under the Statistics Act, Chapter 81 from the Laws of Brunei Darussalam. JPKE would like to assure the selected households that the information collected during the survey will be kept strictly confidential and will be
used for statistical purposes only.
JPKE has appointed survey officers as supervisors and interviewers to undertake the fieldwork for the survey. Selected households are reminded to ensure that the interviewers visiting their premises are those appointed by JPKE through their survey passes, appointment letters, identity cards and JPKE vest.
Results from the LFS 2019 will provide an important source of information for national socio-economic planning. Apart from that, the LFS results may also be used by the private sector, academia, researchers, students and the public for their respective needs and purposes.
Hence, the support and co-operation from all selected households in providing correct and complete information are essential for the success of the survey.
