PERMAI HOLDINGS, BFI AND BSP INK COMMERCIAL AGREEMENTS TO SUPPLY NATURAL GAS TO BFI AMMONIA/UREA PLANT

Permai Holdings Sdn. Bhd. (Permai), Brunei Fertilizer Industries Sdn. Bhd. (BFI) and Brunei Shell Petroleum Company Sdn. Bhd. (BSP) signed commercial agreements to enable supply of natural gas to BFI's urea/ammonia plant that is currently under construction at Sungai Liang Industrial Park. The signing ceremony was held today 16 July 2019, at the Indera Kayangan Ballroom at the Empire Hotel and Country Club.

Signing the agreements were YM Awang Haji Khairuddin bin Haji Abdul Hamid, Permanent Secretary (Investment) at the Ministry of Finance and Economy, as Director of Permai, Mr. Mohammed S. Baderkhan, CEO of BFI, and Mr. Yap Kong Fah, Acting Managing Director of BSP. The Guest of Honour for the event was YB Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew bin Abdullah, Minister at the Prime Minister's Office and Minister of Finance and Economy II, who also witnessed the signing.

Also present were YM Dato Seri Paduka Awang Haji Matsatejo bin Sokiaw, Deputy Minister of Energy, Manpower and Industry, Permanent Secretaries, senior government officials and other invited guests.

Under the agreements, BSP will supply 0.5 tcf of natural gas to BFI over the next 20 years to support downstream industrial development in Brunei and enable significant associated economic benefits.

BFI's industrial fertilizer plant currently under construction at its 55-hectare site at the Sungai Liang Industrial Park, will be amongst the largest fertilizer plants in the Southeast Asia region. The project is estimated to create 350 direct employment opportunities for Bruneians once operational. The plant is expected to commence full commercial operations in 2021.

The BFI fertilizer plant is a flagship economic project and part of wider efforts by the Government of His Majesty The Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam to revitalise and diversify its economy by extending further the value chain of its energy sector by developing capabilities in exportoriented downstream industries.

Supporting the successful development and operations of the BFI fertilizer project is also an important means for BSP to deliver on its mission to fuel Brunei's future and support the growth of Bruneian businesses and capabilities towards realising Brunei's Wawasan 2035.
