Socialization Programme For Piawai Brunei Darussalam 3: 2016 - Specifications For Steel Ribbed Bars For The Reinforcement Of Concrete

A socialization programme was conducted virtually on the 30th November 2021 which was participated by 63 participants from the government, private sectors, academia and construction industries. 

This virtual socialization was co-organised by the National Standards Centre, Ministry of Finance and Economy and Authority in Building and Construction Industry (ABCi), Ministry of Development. 

The objectives of the socialization programme is to introduce the 2nd Edition of Piawai Brunei Darussalam under PBD 3:2016 – “Specifications for Steel Ribbed Bars for the Reinforcement of Concrete” which specifies the requirements for weldable steel ribbed bars in classifying the yielded strength for different ductility classes.

The Guest of Honor for this socialization programme was YM Surveyor (Sr) Hajah Norhayati binti Haji Yaakub, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Construction Industry and Development), Ministry of Development and also as Chairman to the Standards Committee. In her opening remarks, she emphasized on the importance of PBD 3:2016 with the aim to create and provide a vibrant, efficient and sustainable local industry environment that meets the demand for its services to support the objectives towards sustainable, economic and social development. She hopes that the technical committee would continue its efforts in addressing market challenges and technological advances and to continuously progress in standard development following international standards to meet the needs of the local construction industry.

PBD 3:2016 was presented by YM Muhammad Hamdi bin Haji Tengah, Engineer of Department of Technical Services, Jabatan Kerja Raya (JKR) and also a member to the technical committee who highlighted the technicality, contents and the amendment to the updated version of the PBD. Also in attendance were YM Awang Allen On, Director of Industry and Business Ecosystem Division, MOFE in his capacity as Acting Director for National Standard Centre, senior officers from Government Agencies and representatives from the revelant private sectors.

The socialization concluded with sharing of information between the respective government agencies and the construction industry players, discussing technical specifications as well as the way forward for this Socialisation Programme to be introduced in educational systems, especially for relevant stakeholders.
