The Department of Economic Planning and Statistics (JPES) through the Department of Consumer Affairs together with the Weights and Measures Unit (SDT), Industry and Business Ecosystem Division under the Ministry of Finance and Economy conducted a joint operation
on business premises in Pekan Seria, Belait District on 28 March 2026.
The monthly joint operation by JPES and SDT is aimed at ensuring business adhere to the Price Control Act, Chapter 142 and its regulations as well as the Weights and Measures Act, Chapter 151.
During the joint operation, two business premises were found to have committed offences under the Price Control Act, Chapter 142. Syarikat Nazmul Sdn Bhd was issued a compound of B$500.00 for failing to display prices on several goods sold at the premises. In addition, a total of two Warning Notices were issued to a business premise for selling price controlled goods, namely formulated powdered milk, above the maximum price and for displaying prices inconsistent with those in the counter payment system.
Meanwhile, SDT officers found fourteen units of weighing machines used for trading purposes. All weighing machine are verified, accurate and registered in accordance with the Weights and Measures Act, Chapter 151 dan Weights and Measures (Verification) Regulations, Chapter 3 (1) and (2).
Consumers are advised to ensure weighing and measuring machines used in trading activities involving weight, volume and length bear a valid registration label issued by the SDT.
JPES and SDT encourage the public to lodge official complaints, together with relevant supporting documents, should they encounter any businesses that contravene the Price Control Act, Chapter 142, and the Weights and Measures Act, Chapter 151.
