Industry and Business Ecosystem Division (IBE) through Weights and Measures Unit (SDT) and Department of Economic Planning and Statistics (DEPS) through Department of Consumer Affairs (DCA) under the Ministry of Finance and Economy conducted a Joint Operation at several business premises in Kampong Belais, Kampong Sungai Tanit dan Jalan Batang Duri in Temburong District on Tuesday, 25 November 2025.
During the operation, SDT Unit found seven (7) units of weighing machines used for trading purposes. All weighing machine are verified, accurate and registered in accordance with the Weights and Measures Act 1983, Chapter 151, and the Weights and Measures (Verification) Regulations 1994,
Chapter 3 (1) and (2).
DEPS found two (2) business premises to be non-compliant with the Price Control Act, Chapter 142 and its regulations. As a result, a Warning Notice was issued to one (1) business premise for failing to adhere to the maximum price set for price-controlled goods, specifically cooking oil. Another business premise was also issued a Warning Notice for non-compliance with the maximum pricing requirements for price-controlled goods, namely formulated powdered milk.
The business premises inspected included Syarikat Seri Jaya, Associated Agencies (B) Company, Kainat Group Companies and Syarikat Ampuan Haji Salleh bin Ampuan Judah.
Vendors and users of weight and measure machines are required to comply as stipulated in the Weights and Measures (Verification) Regulations, 1994 under section 3(2); Every person who uses or has in his possession for use for trade any weight, measure or instrument for weighing not stamped as required by this regulation shall be guilty of an offence.
In addition, DEPS reminds all businesses of the importance of adhering to the rules and regulations under the Price Control Act, Chapter 142. Businesses must ensure that all price-controlled goods are not sold above the maximum prices, and that prices for all goods are clearly displayed. The price list for price-controlled goods is available at www.deps.mofe.gov.bn/cad.
