Stall operators at the Pantai Jerudong parking area have been advised to display prices clearly and accurately in accordance with the Price Control (Display of Prices) Order. The reminder was issued during a recent inspection conducted by the Department of Economic Planning and Statistics (JPES), through the Department of Consumer Affairs under the Ministry of Finance and Economy, to ensure consumers are able to compare
prices easily and make informed purchasing decisions.
The recent inspection is part of a continuous schedule of monitoring visits, undertaken to safeguard consumer interests by ensuring price transparency among businesses, while promoting an ethical and transparent business environment. Additionally, the inspection aimed to raise awareness and promote compliance among businesses with the Price Control (Display of Prices) Order under the Price Control Act, Chapter 142.
The inspection of over fifteen stalls selling various goods including fruits, vegetables and dried food items, found that some stall operators either did not display prices or displayed prices only on certain items. Accordingly, stall operators were briefed and advised on the importance of displaying prices clearly and accurately for all items sold.
JPES will continue conducting inspections to markets and tamu from time to time to ensure compliance with the Price Control (Display of Prices) Order. Businesses found to repeatedly fail to display prices may be issued a compound of up to B$1,000 under section 10A of the Price Control Act, Chapter 142.
Complaints or inquiries regarding price display may be submitted via email at consumercomplaint@jpes.gov.bn or through Talian Darussalam 123, along with supporting documents such as photos, for JPES further assessment.
